Media Powerhouse Celebrates Third Birthday in Style at Elstree Film Studios

Friday 30 July 2010

AV specialist Media Powerhouse celebrated its third birthday on 7th July with a series of Open Days to demonstrate its cutting edge technical solutions using a dedicated stage at Elstree Film Studios. With live productions of music videos, Dr. Who, Big Brother and CBBC’s The Slammer taking place in neighbouring studios, Media Powerhouse showcased its unique Image Ultra widescreen graphics system, the semi transparent LED wall Mirage 40, two portable production units and the latest in 3D projection technologies.

Image Ultra is one of the most advanced and dynamic widescreen graphics systems available on the market. Using industry standard software, Media Powerhouse has the capabilities to embed HD images for partial or full screen display and seamlessly integrate live video feeds to bring any imagery on screen to life. Most recently deployed at Management World 2010 in Nice, one of the world’s largest telecommunications conferences, the multi output Image Ultra system provided crystal clear graphics for the impressive 20 x 6 m screen that spread across the stage at the Acropolis Convention Centre in France.

Stage 5 which was utilised for the Open Days is normally used for Dancing on Ice and is located next to the set of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Synonymous with excellence in film and television production worldwide, Elstree Film Studios has played home to blockbusters such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and for tour rehearsals and music videos of Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue and Take That. Elstree Film Studios is also home to Media Powerhouse’s offices and its dedicated R&D workshops.

Among the solutions being displayed was the semi transparent and lightweight LED Mirage 40 which was used at the Blue Man Group in Zurich. The Mirage 40, which can be built to any size, shape or form, is an innovative large-scale video screen solution designed to provide dramatic and dynamic lighting and video effects for large-scale productions. It formed the hit show’s striking 90 sqm backdrop which uses multimedia effects to wow the audience.

Visitors to the Open Day were also able to observe the innovative and environmentally friendly ViewLight stage sets which have been accredited with the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code. With a dedicated 5000 sq ft workshop at the Studios, Media Powerhouse has developed an array of modern sets, stages and bespoke builds and specialist back lighting solutions.

Two portable fly pack production units were connected to HD camcorders to demonstrate multi definition image acquisition, for clients who require portable production units. Used at a variety of events, these have enabled clients to not only record vision to TX tape and camera ISO cutaways onboard, but also to continue the HD workflow with true HD images on screen.

Michael Breen, CEO of Media Powerhouse concluded: “The Open Days have been a remarkable success and have been a fitting celebration to mark our third birthday. The continuing success of Media Powerhouse would not be possible if not for our team. They work tirelessly and always go the extra mile to deliver exceptional projects for all our clients. It’s our people that make Media Powerhouse stand out from the crowd.”
